  1. I want to write comments about the question. As time passed, bilingualism is considered positively. It is good for mental muscles and flexibilities. If I have my children, I would like to recommend them to learn bilingualism because it is beneficial for their mental health.

  3. The views of bilingualism have changed a long of the years. In the past, the Bilingualism was bad. That reflects on the words of Doctor Judith F. Kroll who says, "In the past, bilinguals were looked down upon,". But nowadays, bilingualism has reached a very worthy baseline because it helps in the development of brain. In my opinion I will totally encourage my children to be bilingual because it will bring more opportunities in the future, the brain will be developed better, and the capacity of learning will increase in other subject.

  4. Hi, this is Kyusuk Kim. I read this article and I would say it shows some changes of views of bilingualism. In the past, bilingual people were not recognized as high value people, but the view has been changed to be positive. Today, people who can speak two languages are valuable because the researchers discovered that bilingual people must be strengthened with mental flexibility and enhanced with muscles.

  5. Hello, I am agree with all the commentaries mentioned above, that bilingualism is definitely important nowadays. Seems like today to be able to speak two or more languages is absolutely normal. We would not be impressed if someone can tell that s/he can speak English beside her/his mother-tongue. The world is changed, and it is a requirement to know at least two languages if the goal is the successful international career.
I know for a fact, that my children are going to speak more than three languages. And it's not gonna be my encouragement any more, it is necessary for them to be able to speak multiple languages. I speak Russian, Uzbek, English, and German, my parents-Russian. My sister got married with a german guy, so they speak German and Russian in their family. Their baby-girl speaks these two languages from the very beginning. My fiance speaks English, Spanish, and Korean, since he is half Korean. So, it is quite obvious, that our baby has to speak all these languages to be able to communicate with all the family, since none of them can speak English beside my future husband and me.

  7. In the past, bilinguals were looked down upon, but now, people believe that bilinguals will develop a higher level of mental flexibility. I want my child to be bilingual, not only because it is good for mental and brain, but also it is very useful for child's future. They can get more information and become more open than people who speak a single language.

  8. I belive that views of bilingualism have not changed over the years. Until recently, it was thought that being bilingual was an advantage; however, the new view is that everybody should speak at least english, For this and other reasons I will encourage my kids to speak both langauge spanish and english at home. There is not better gift that your kids can be able to communicate with people from other countries and understand the differences that make unique as humans.

  11. In the past being a bilingual was "looked down upon", but by the time passed it had been a positive skill. I will definitely encourage and provide ways to have bilingual kids. As I can see in my life, an "extra" language helps to open door to the world. It expands your communication area to another country or countries, different people, culture, and also can be an important skill in a professional environment.

  12. “In the past, bilinguals were looked down upon,” However, it's a way to strengthens your mental muscle and your executive function now. I would recommend young people to learn more languages. Languages not only have the communication function, but they are also the way to inheriting their special culture. Many vocabularies, especially in the poems, are untranslatable to any other languages. Even though you can translate the main meaning, forengners, who understand nothing about that language, can never understand the full meaning nor the clever points. So I think it would be good if young people study to be a bilingual.

  13. Well In my personal perspective, I consider that many of us have those characteristics mentioned in the article. To be sincere I did not notice before that this flexibility on our minds was developing as we learn another language. Furthermore, in today's world more and more people is learning more than one language. It is considered to be wise if we do so because the professional opportunities when knowing two or three languages are wide better.
Regarding my children. I think I want to give them and teach them the best of me. This means I will teach them all my talents and learning another language will not be an exception.

  15. I read this article and I was glad to know that when you speak several languages it may be really good for your mind. The article says that when you are switching languages all the time it strengthens your mental muscle. I really believe in that, if consider that fact that I always switch languages when I communicate with my friends who speak different languages. It makes me feel good and I hope it can help me to develop my mental flexibility.

  18. According to the article, in the persons who were bilinguals were looked down upon. But nowadays after come researches has been discovered that being bilingual persons develop more cerebral strengths; hence, being bilingual is cool!! I felt sad when I arrived here and watched all the children of hispanic people who dont speak a fluent spanish or even worst, some of them dotn speak any spanish. I dont want that to happen to my children, her mom and I will teach them how to be bilingual, and probably will teach them how to learn more than 2 languages.
