I have contacted with 23andme two years ago, and in china, there are several similar institute, even some hospital do the same thing, they are all for money. Most people who test their gene just for curiosity. I think the US government is getting in the way of progress this time. Gene research need lots of institutes and experts work together, 23andme is just one of them.
It is a hard question. Probably the US Government says that they are acting for protecting people; but the real reasons could be others. Probably just one person is behind all this. And of course this is stopping the progress.
