California Man Survives by Eating Lizards

What do you think you'd do in such a situation? Do you think you'd have the will to survive that long?

  1. It is definitely a scary situation. We never know how would we react to something until it really happens, right? My first tough about eating lizards, frogs and snakes, is that it is disgusting. But when I think that it would be the only one to survive, I think I would do the same think. In a survival or death situation our body naturally finds more power and encouragement. All in all, because I am completely in love with life, I would do everything to stay alive. =)

  2. This is Kyusuk. Wow! It is so amazing accident... Even he was 72 years old, but he showed us his bravery to survive in the wilderness during 19 days by himself. I can't imagine how he survived with eating those animals..(I think those are not edible...). If I were in that situation, I would try not to forget the beginning area that I have lost my way with putting some branches into the ground to discover easily. Then, I would walk around to find the way. But, I am not sure if I would endure so long time as him. Also, I am not sure if I could eat those kinds of animals without any tools. So, I really want to applause him so much !

  3. Well I believe all of us in that situation woulb be willing to find ways to survive. For example, looking for food, water, and clothing. In those situations everything is valid to do the challenge is survive. However, in this case it would have been better to stay with the other group. Most of these situations can be prevented before they happen.

  4. It seems terrible to eat lizards or frogs, but when you face the problem of survive, I think most people will eat them. Hungry is very terrible, people who haven't experience it cannot imagine what that is. I think when we meet this kind of problem, the instinct will push us to survive, of course it is better to know some skills.

  5. It is a good luck for Penaflor that he has been founded by search party after being 19 days in the place without any civilization. At the same time, it is to his credit that he survived after being cut off from humanity. He showed his courage by being able to survive in very severe conditions without proper food and subsisting on a diet of lizards, frogs and squirrels.

  6. I agree with Liu. I think when it comes to the point of surviving, our animal instincts take over and we would not care what and how to do thing. I am absolutely sure that ANYONE of us would do the same as that guy. Well, and if you think you would not do the same try get lost in jungle of Amazon, do not eat for 5 days, be isolated from the people, no knifes, no water, no matches, absolutely nothing!!! Only you and wild nature have left along together, trust me you would do whatever needs to be done to survive !!! But I am not sure how long you would stay alive though.

Wow! This is a brave man. Well, if I were in the wilderness, lost, I don't know how would I react. However, for what I've seen of myself, I have good survival skills. I think I would eat whatsoever thing I could in order to survive. When you are in a situation like this, surviving is all that matters. However, I don't think i would have survived so long eating snakes & lizards. I would have been there for about 5 days without passing out.

  8. This is definitely an inspiring story of an old man who survived almost three weeks in a wilderness. in my view, he had a high chance to survive longer because he is a hunter, and he have been in wilderness many times, so he probably know many survival techniques besides hunting. On the other hand, there is another story about a teenage boy who couldn't survive after two weeks of his life in a wilderness. He was found dead. Thus, despite of the survival instinct, experience is definitely the life saving factor.

  9. There was a series of TV programs, an England man named Bear traveled to the most dangerous places in the world and told people how to survive in these situations. He told us how to protect ourselves and what kind of worms or insects or animals are safety to eat ("taste like chicken"). I love his videos(he is famous in China, but I heard that he was not allowed to make videos any more). I don't know how long I can survive in those situations, but I would try not to put myself in those dangerous places.

  10. This is an incredible story. If people really want to survive in a extreme environment, they have to do extreme things to survive. There are other cases where they dont just eat lizards, but other random animals. If someone has the will and desire to survive, it doesnt matter whar or how, they would do everything to survive. I think i would die in a situation like this one. Im a very spoiled with food.

  11. I served in the Brazilian army and I could received some survival training. I can remember a little bit and i think that the instinct will help me to survive. I learned for example use some herbs, to make a soup with wild rabbit. So, i thin that i could survive. Actually, I want to learn how to survive in the snow, or receive more training.
