Controversy Over Football Team Name

Do you think the name or the mascot of the team should be changed?  Should it be considered offensive?

  1. I strongly agree with the team's owners. The name of the team just reflects who they are and where they came from. As Jason Begay said, it is unbelievable that after many years it is an issue. I completely disagree with the possibility to change the name of the team, and it should not be considered as offensive. The name of the team is a proud of their ancestral.

  2. This is Kyusuk. I agree with owner's statement. The team followed the spirit of their traditional meaning and mascot from their initiative beginning. Also, the owner said that they wanted to last their first nation's spirits. I also agree with their thoughts because they just reflected who they are and where they came from. And I am doubting why people are now making issues about this team's name and meaning of the team. I think they don't need to change their team's name and mascot.

  3. I think the team doesn't have to change its name or the mascot. Like the owner's of the team said the name of the team is a kind of symbol of where they come from, what their identity is. Because they are not just the name but symbol of their identity, I think they don't need to change their title. For example, Yahoo, which is one of the most famous websites changed its shape of title recently. As it changed its title, there was a great opposition since it was awkward at first. There was an image when people think about Yahoo before, but it was changed in a day, and it seems to remove the original image of Yahoo. Therefore, not to be Yahoo, the team doesn't need to change its name or the mascot. Change can destroy its image greatly.

  4. I like all the comments above. I also believe that if the title of a team is already popular and recognizable by many people, it is going to be a bad choice to change the known name/title. The name/ title/ brand is part of people opinion about a team, it is a part of the team's image! But I also would strongly recommend to the team and it's leaders to be so careful at the first place when they are choosing the name for the team, so they wouldn't need to change it later.. :) It is obviously very important !!!

  5. I think the name of the mascot shouldn't be changed because it is part of the tradition of the football team and of American History. I don't think it's offensive for the American "Indians" or Native Americans because this team is not degrading their beliefs or is not making fun of their history. For me the name is just fine :)

  6. I like the name of the NFL team. in my opinion, the name its very cool. Bur off course im from other country and i could think different. Other cultures or countries think that this is very offensive or disrespectful because probably they would think that they are making fun of an important part of the history or culture. But form me is something like giving honors to the red skins.
